Toast is pretty great, whether you grab a slice just before you run out of the door or you sit down for brunch to enjoy a couple of perfectly toasted slices of bread topped with an elaborate mix of ingredients.
It’s a staple in many peoples diets due to its simplicity and deliciousness.
Well now, the toast game has evolved – and you thought it was at its peak with avocado on toast – people are replacing their usual wholemeal bread for slices of sweet potato instead.
It all started when blogger Kelsey of Littlebitsof woke up one morning craving her favourite avocado on toast and to her horror she had no bread.
Thinking outside the box she decided to cut up a sweet potato into 1/4″ slices and pop them in the toaster.
Just a few minutes later, a new food craze was born.
She shared her creation on her Instagram page and was met with a lot of questions, but also a lot of praise for her creativity.
After topping it with her usual of avocado, lemon juice, salt and pepper, Kelsey decided to experiment.
She has since tried both savoury and sweet combinations including almond butter, sliced banana and cinnamon, as well as tuna, onion and mayonnaise – it seems the possibilities are endless.
The sweet potato slices took a couple of rounds in the toaster before they were cooked through, slightly brown and crispy.
We’re sure it’s worth the extra few minutes of waiting.
